What is a port hand buoy?

  • A port hand buoy marks the port (left) side of a channel, or where a danger is located;
  • It must be kept on the port (left) side of a pleasure craft when proceeding upstream;
  • It is green in color;
  • If the buoy has a light, the color of the light is green;
  • The top is flat;
  • It is identified by a combination of letters and odd-digit numbers;
  • It comes in three floating variations: cans, spars or pillars.
