How do I get a non-tidal boat license in NJ?
The license is issued by the Motor Vehicle Commission; you must present your New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate in order to obtain your license.
Exemptions:
- Vessels powered by a 12-volt electric motor, or a motor less than 1 horsepower;
- Vessels 12 feet in length or longer with a motor less than 10 horsepower;
- Operators participating in an authorized race who hold the required permit;
- Out-of-state residents who possess written proof of successful completion of a course substantially similar to a Boating Safety Course approved for New Jersey.
