Before you can access the final exam online, you must follow a Transport Canada-certified course. The course only takes three hours. There are five modules and the first module is free. Once you have completed the course, you will be able to access the Transport Canada final exam.
After the exam you can print your temporary certificate, this is valid and you can go boating immediately. You will receive your permanent card a few weeks after you pass the exam.
The only way to access the Transport Canada final exam is to successfully complete all five chapters of the mandatory 3-hour online course, including the ten-question quiz at the end of each chapter, even if you have studied a printed manual.
You can use your notes and the printed study guide during the final exam. We recommend you buy a copy of the study guide when you pay for the boating safety exam to use during the final exam. You'll receive the printed study guide by mail.
You should be able to answer about 50% of the questions using common sense. For the other 50% of the questions you will need to have studied the course material as you will not be able to work out the answer by logic alone.
Yes, and retakes are free. However, you will have to wait 24 hours after finishing the exam before you can retake it for another chance to obtain your Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
