**Yes. All boaters** must have a Pleasure Craft Operator Card to operate **any** **powered watercraft**. This law applies to all boaters, there are no exemptions. "Powered watercraft" means a watercraft fitted with any size motor, **even an electric trolling motor.**

### Do you need a boat license for a boat under 9.9 HP?

All boaters, regardless of age, are legally required to obtain and carry a pleasure craft operator card while operating **any motorized boat**.

### Do you need a license to drive a jet ski or sea-doo?

Yes, absolutely. **If you are operating a vessel with an engine, you will require a boat license.**

### Do you need a boating license for a kayak in Ontario?

A Pleasure Craft Operator Card is not needed for canoes, kayaks if there is no motor attached.

### Do I need a boat license to operate a boat with an electric motor in Ontario?

### How hard is it to get a boat license?

Obtain your boating license within a few hours. The boating safety exam is designed with 50 multiple choice questions, making it easy to find the right answers. To successfully pass, you must achieve a minimum score of 75% (38 out of 50). However, there's no need to worry because the boating safety test enables you to consult the open book for guidance!

### What is the fine for no boating license in Ontario?

If you are found operating a powered watercraft in Ontario without a boating license or proof of competency, you may be subject to a minimum fine of $250.
