Kitesurfing safety tips
What are the precautions for kitesurfing?
- Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD when kitesurfing even if you are a good swimmer.
- Don't go alone
- Protect yourself from the dangers of hypothermia by wearing a wetsuit.
- Check weather conditions and tides
- Be ready for unexpected equipment failures
- Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Don't surf at night
- Take note of the kite sizes that other riders are using. If you don't have the appropriate size, it's best to wait for the right conditions before heading out.
- If operating in open water, be careful not to stray too far from shore.
- Never ride out beyond your swimming capabilities.
