Kitesurfing safety tips

What are the precautions for kitesurfing?

  • Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD when kitesurfing even if you are a good swimmer.
  • Don't go alone
  • Protect yourself from the dangers of hypothermia by wearing a wetsuit.
  • Check weather conditions and tides
  • Be ready for unexpected equipment failures
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
  • Don't surf at night
  • Take note of the kite sizes that other riders are using. If you don't have the appropriate size, it's best to wait for the right conditions before heading out.
  • If operating in open water, be careful not to stray too far from shore.
  • Never ride out beyond your swimming capabilities.
